Pagoda: A Unique Fruit Industry Brand Inspired by Chinese Culture

Respecting Nature and Embracing Tradition

Pagoda, a fruit industry enterprise, has partnered with 1983Asia to create a brand and mascot that pays homage to Chinese culture and its deep connection with nature.

1983Asia, a renowned design team, delved into Chinese culture and semiology to develop a unique and captivating brand identity for Pagoda. The inspiration came from the monkey, a symbol of wisdom and courage in China, which is closely associated with fruits. By showcasing the beauty of Asian culture through design, 1983Asia aims to create a visual representation that resonates with audiences worldwide.

The strength of the Pagoda design lies in its deep roots in Chinese culture. The main characters, including the monkey and peach, symbolize the harmonious relationship between humans and nature. The color palette and mascot design draw inspiration from traditional Chinese elements, creating a visually striking and culturally significant brand.

Turning their creative vision into reality, 1983Asia meticulously crafted the mascot graphics, starting from pencil drafts. The design team ensured that their creation stood out from mainstream ideas, combining unique aesthetics with traditional symbolism. Using software such as Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop, the draft was transformed into a visually captivating representation. The impressive colors, infused with meaning from flowers, seasons, and nature, were brought to life through printing technologies like UV and hot stamping.

The interaction between the design and the audience is a celebration of the seasons and the cycle of life. The monkeys dance through the four seasons, while the flowers change to reflect their emotions. Grass and wood represent the changing seasons, and the flowers eagerly anticipate the arrival of their fruits. This joyful and beautiful art form, originally used in farming societies to communicate with the heavens and the earth, has been transformed by 1983Asia into a part of farming aesthetics.

The Pagoda brand encompasses three dimensions: product, living, and concept. It aims to convey to consumers the company's commitment to environmental sustainability, land stewardship, and customer-centric values. To effectively communicate these ideas, 1983Asia developed two adorable characters that embody the brand's principles, ensuring a seamless delivery of the brand's message.

Completed in late 2017 in Shenzhen, China, the Pagoda design project required extensive research into Chinese symbols and totems. Overcoming creative, technical, and research challenges, 1983Asia successfully created a brand that respects nature, embraces tradition, and captivates audiences with its unique design.

This exceptional design by 1983Asia has been recognized with the Iron A' Design Award in the Graphics, Illustration, and Visual Communication Design category in 2020. This prestigious award acknowledges designs that are well-crafted, practical, and innovative, meeting professional and industrial requirements. The Pagoda design stands out for its integration of industry best practices, competent technical characteristics, and its contribution to a better world.
